How did this happen? Three siblings inherit a 126-year-old winery in north-east Victoria and fall in love with the grand dame. Read on and see what unfolds.
Almost five years ago, Eliza, Angela & Nick Brown's father passed away suddenly and the next day the three of them - all aged under 32 - took the reigns of the beautiful old dame - All Saints Estate. Daunting task. They talk about youthful ignorance - well Eliza, Angela & Nick had it in spades.
The world then decided to throw them a few curly ones, like drought, then lack of water and to top it off the GFC. So they think they've learnt a few things over the past five years that will hold them in good stead for the future. Their secret? Hard work and the art of laughter. When things seem a little bit impossible they have a glass of wine and a good laugh and then the possibilities become endless again.
Established by two enterprising Scots, George Sutherland Smith and John Banks. The castle was built in the 1880's and based on the design of The Castle of May, complete with turrets and tower.
The castle is classified by the ‘Historic Buildings Council’, along with two other Estate buildings, the former bottling hall & cellar and the Chinese Dormitory. The former bottling hall and cellar now houses The Indigo Cheese Co. (est. December 2005), and the Chinese Dormitory, built around 100 years ago, is the last remaining example of its type. The Great Hall, our main wine storage area, is lined with huge 100-year-old oak casks, filled with rare Tokays and Muscats. Some of these fortified wines are up to 80 years old and will form the base of future blends for years to come. The wines are amongst Australia's and the worlds greatest, internationally extolled for their richness and "lusciousness". All Saints Estate won the first gold medal for Australian wine in 1873 at the London International Exhibition and continues to win trophies and receive rave reviews today.
Eliza, Angela and Nicholas Brown form the fourth-generation wine family who own and run All Saints Estate and St Leonards Vineyard in Wahgunyah, part of the famed Rutherglen wine region of North-east Victoria.Eldest daughter Eliza is at the helm as CEO with sister, Angela and brother, Nicholas as board directors. Each brings a wealth of experience gained both in and outside the wine industry. Eliza’s expertise lies in business management, sales and marketing, while Angela focuses on brand development and export markets, with Nicholas set to follow his father’s passion for viticulture and winemaking.
All share the vision of producing outstanding premium table wines and Australia’s finest winery experience. They believe that innovation, youthful passion, a healthy respect for traditional winemaking and a talented team of people are the key to delivering that vision. They are honoured to continue the wine-making tradition established by their father Peter R Brown, who passed away in a tragic car accident in November
2005. Peter was one of the original Brown Brothers at Milawa and Eliza, Angela and Nicholas all play a role in the ongoing management of that business in addition to their independent ownership of All Saints Estate and St Leonards Vineyard.
