In April 2013 Julia Sewell became the first woman to dux the Australian Court of Master Sommeliers exams. Despite only being in the business for less than 2 years, Julia has already outperformed many of her peers by gaining this qualification, which is the highest level of certification offered in Australia. As part of her prize, Julia is awarded the Petaluma Scholarship to study for the advanced-level exams in the UK or US.

Currently the sommelier at Melbourne's Virginia Plain restaurant, Julia epitomises a new breed of sommelier hitting Australian restaurants; young, inquisitive, and very well informed.
