Logan Weemala Shiraz Viognier
The Weemala Shiraz Viognier is a blend of Shiraz grapes grown in Orange and Mudgee (approximately 50/50), and viognier from Orange (about 6% of the total blend). We find the viognier compliments the shiraz blend as it contributes a silky texture and very subtle floral and spicy characters while lifting the bright fruity aroma of the shiraz. Shiraz and Viognier have a real synergy in their flavours, particularly when the shiraz is grown in a cold climate, which is why the pairing of these two varieties has stood the test of time.
This wine has beautiful spicy and floral aromas while the palate is full of anise, mixed berries and plums, with a lovely long, velvety, not too-tannic finish. The co-fermentation of Viognier with the Shiraz actually changes the structure of many of the tannins to a form that is more stable, so the wine will age gracefully over the mid-term.
