Introducing Glen Eldon Wines Background Glen Eldon Wines was established by the Sheedy Family in 1997. A family owned and operated winery; Richard and Mary Sheedy have built Glen Eldon into a premium winery specialising in regional wines of distinctive quality, displaying the world renown and admired characters of the Barossa. Prior to launching the family label of Glen Eldon Wines, Richard gained his experience as Winemaker/General Manager at Elderton Wines and prior to that at St.Hallett Wines. With the main vineyard located on the family’s Glen Eldon property at Springton in the Eden Valley, it was only fitting to honour their brand with the Glen Eldon Wines name.

The property was first settled in the 1880’s by the Herbig family, who planted vines, fruit trees and ran cattle and sheep. Today Richard and Mary and their four children call Glen Eldon home, with their vineyard and winery operations centralised from this point. Regional Diversity Vines were first planted in the Barossa in the 1850’s. The Barossa wine region is made up of the Valley floor and the Barossa Ranges (Eden Valley) and has built a reputation as Australia’s premier viticulture and winemaking region. Barossa Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Eden Valley Riesling offer distinctive regional characters that capture the imagination of wine drinkers the world over. Vineyard Site Selection Glen Eldon Wines has vineyards located throughout the Barossa Floor and Eden Valley, each one selected for its micro-climate and flavour attributes, with all offering distinctive sub-regional characters. Keeping the final wine in mind, Winemaker and Owner, Richard Sheedy, selects only the best parcels of fruit. Variation in soil, rainfall, row facing and pruning, combined with attention to detail in vineyard management, ensures consistent premium fruit production.

In the Winery Richard’s winemaking philosophy accentuates the regional characters of the fruit. He utilises modern winemaking knowledge combined with traditional methods of fermenting reds in open fermenters, with regular pump-over’s to ensure full flavour and colour extraction. Mixtures of French and American hogsheads are used for barrel maturation, with time spent on oak dependent on each parcel. Generally maturation is over a period of 18 to 24 months. The Future Glen Eldon Wines is committed to producing premium wine. We will continue to make small quantities of distinctive regional wine, utilizing the diversity of our vineyard plantings to highlight the micro environs of the Barossa and its surrounds.
